The craftswomen who produce these KAGUA woven baskets all learned to weave local sisal fibres from a young age and practise this traditional craft within a small weaving group in rural Kenya.

Most of these weavers are from farming communities who rely on farming – and therefore, steady rainfall – to feed, support and clothe their families. So when farming slows down, weaving work picks up. Purchasing one of the woven baskets helps the brand’s mission to empower African craftswomen to support themselves and their families more sustainably, and preserve this age-old craft.
